Reading Hospital Unveils App for Expecting Moms

An app is helping expecting mothers spend less time at the doctor's office. It's called "Babyscripts."

Patients get a 'mommy kit' and download the app. The moms-to-be are responsible for taking their own blood pressure and weighing themselves every two weeks. That data then gets sent right to their physician, and they are notified immediately if there's a problem.

Reading Health Foundation provided a grant to make this possible.

Appointment kick-starts Reading foundation

Reading Health System now has its new Reading Health System Foundation up and running with the appointment of Katherine Thornton as president of the nonprofit entity.

The foundation was created to guide the fundraising and development of many of the health system’s needs.

“For nearly 150 years, Reading Health System has provided the highest quality care to our community,” said Reading Health System Foundation board chair Chris Kraras. “This foundation will ensure that Reading Health will continue its mission to improve and sustain the health of our community, ‘Advancing Health, and Transforming Lives.’ ”

Raising money to do that is at the core of the foundation’s mission, according to Thornton.

Reading Health System Foundation Names New President

The Reading Health System announced the appointment of a new member to its foundation's leadership Monday.

The Reading Health System announced the appointment of a new member to its foundation's leadership Monday.

Katherine Thornton of Wyomissing has been appointed president of the Reading Health System Foundation after serving as its interim executive director since September 2015. She most recently served as development and public relations director for the Reading Public Library.

Thornton said the foundation was formed with the central goal of enhancing patient care into the future.

"It's a way to bring in transformative patient care that might not be possible with other funds," she said. "I'm excited about all the possibilities as this moves along."
